The republic of Somaliland has announced that it is considering a request from the US and international refugee agencies to receive Afghanistan refugees who have fled Taliban rule.
Speaking during a TV interview, the country’s deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Liban Yusuf Osman confirmed the announcement.
Osman noted that the request showed that Somaliland – which is not internationally recognised – was a stable and credible state.
The US had led the evacuation of tens of thousands people from Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country in August.
The country and refugee agencies has been sending request to several stable countries to help host the refugees who fled for their lives trying to avoid the harsh rules of the Taliban
